Wastepack Group becomes a founding signatory of the UK Packaging Pact

The Wastepack Group is proud to be a founding signatory of the UK Packaging Pact, a new ten‑year collaboration led by WRAP to drive system‑wide change across all packaging materials placed on the UK market.

The UK Packaging Pact brings together nearly 100 organisations from across the packaging value chain, including producers, retailers, compliance schemes, waste managers, recyclers, trade bodies and government. Its purpose is to move beyond ambition and deliver real‑world solutions that support a more efficient, circular and sustainable packaging system.

Supporting producers through change

Packaging regulation is entering a new phase. With Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Simpler Recycling and wider regulatory reforms now being implemented, producers face increased obligations, more complex reporting requirements and growing cost exposure linked directly to packaging design choices.

As a compliance scheme, Wastepack works closely with producers and becoming a founding signatory of the UK Packaging Pact reflects our commitment to helping members not only meet their legal obligations, but also prepare for future regulatory and cost pressures while making informed packaging decisions.

“What’s really positive about the UK Packaging Pact is the focus on collaboration. By working together and sharing real‑world experience from across the industry, we have a much better chance of turning ambition into practical, workable change.”

The Pact focuses on four priority areas:

  • Optimising packaging to reduce unnecessary material use and improve recyclability
  • Scaling reuse and refill where appropriate and deliverable
  • Supporting investment in recycling and waste management infrastructure
  • Improving data quality and consistency across the packaging system

These priorities closely align with the challenges producers are navigating under EPR and related reforms.

Our commitment

As a founding signatory, Wastepack will continue to work alongside WRAP, industry and government to ensure that packaging reform delivers measurable environmental outcomes, while remaining practical and deliverable for all stakeholders.

We are committed to helping our members stay compliant today, and confident about what comes next.
