Charity Update

Team Wastepack ran London Royal Parks Half Marathon for Blood Cancer Charity NATSIRT

On Sunday 13th October four members of the Wastepack team got their running shoes on and set off for London Royal Parks Half Marathon. Having trained over the summer months the team were ready to join the 16,000 runners tackle the 13.1 miles at their own pace.

Our Wastepack team were part of 12 runners taking part to raise money for NATSIRT Fund which is in the final stages of becoming a formal blood cancer charity. The organisation aims to beat blood cancer one step at a time, whilst supporting those affected by blood related cancers. NATSIRT was founded in 2012 as a tribute to Tristan Martin who lost his fight to a rare form of leukaemia just 2 months short of his 40th birthday.

The NATSIRT Fund was founded in 2012 by Tristan’s sister, Heidi Martin, and by 2017 the campaign had raised around £30,000 for blood cancer related causes. The 2019 Royal Parks runners aimed to raise the funds to help NATSIRT establish themselves as an independent and standalone charity, allowing them to channel the money into specific areas to pick one battle at a time.

So far over £5,000 has been raised via NATSIRT’s Just Giving Crowdfunding platform, with a final target of £7,750 there is still a little way to go for Heidi’s goal to be fulfilled and make NATSIRT an official UK charity.

Macmillian Bake Sale

Every Autumn our team here at Wastepack get their aprons on and whisk up their baked goods for our annual bake sale in aid of Macmillian. This year it will be held on 6th November, with homemade treats such as ginger cake, giant peanut butter cups and lemon drizzle cake on the menu, not to mention the savoury bites!

Last year we raised £313.40 with the help of our neighbouring businesses here in Stansted, Essex. This year we hope to top this by inviting even more local businesses to come along for a sweet treat. If you happen to be in the Stansted area on 6th November please do drop into our offices and take a look!
