Wastepack Support Primary School

We've sponsored new general waste and mixed recycling bins for the playground at Richard De Clare Community Academy in Halstead to encourage pupils to recycle in the playground the same items as they do at home. The school which is located near to Group Finance Manager, Jill's hometown and was also attended by Daisy our PR and Communications Executive, recently celebrated an impressive 175th Anniversary milestone!

Richard de Clare is proactive in its efforts to motivate and engage pupils with their environment and encourage recycling. The school composts any food waste, recycling bins are provided in classrooms, and the school is also part of BIC and TerraCycle’s pen and pencil recycling scheme. Being able to provide the pupils with recycling facilities in the playground is another key milestone in their sustainability journey.

With Education Secretary, Damian Hinds, challenging schools to eliminate use of single-use plastic by 2022 it is more important than ever for schools to commit to sustainability goals.

Lynne Cullis, our CEO, said: “We’re proud to be working with Richard De Clare primary school to help them achieve their environmental goals. It is wonderful to see the children so enthusiastic about their school community”.

Project leader and our Group Finance Manager, Jill Joyce added: “It’s great to be supporting the local primary school in Halstead and I’m thrilled to see the strides RdeC is making to become a more environmentally friendly school”.

Sarah Donnelly, Head Teacher at Richard de Clare Community Academy said: “We are delighted to be working with Wastepack to provide practical and fun solutions to waste collection. The delivery of the bins marks the start of our work together to educate and raise awareness of environmental issues. The children are delighted with their new bins, showing affection for the cute characters. This is bound to be a great start in keeping them fed with rubbish”.

We have some exciting projects for the pupils in the new academic year which are soon to be announced. Watch this space!
